Sam Helton was born in Lawton, Oklahoma and is currently still living in Lawton. Sam is currently married to Kathleen Helton and they have 4 children, Randy, Christopher, Kaylan and Weston, along with two granddaughters, Kelsie and Avery, and a grandson, Joey.
He was a former Lawton Police Officer and Coordinator of the Lawton Crime Stoppers Program. Sam was elected to the Oklahoma State Senate in 1992 and served as a State Senator until November 2004. Due to Oklahoma Legislative term limits of 12 years, Senator Helton retired from the Senate. Senator Helton served as the Senate Majority Whip, Chairman of Military Veterans Affairs and Public Safety Committee, Chairman of Energy Environmental Resources and Regulatory Affairs Committee of the Oklahoma State Senate.
Senator Helton was the principal Senate author of Lawton/Ft. Sill $32 million Veteran’s Center, a 200 bed long-term nursing facility for our nation’s War Heroes and the principal Senate author of incentive package for the Goodyear plant in Lawton. This was a $36 million incentive package to enhance their $250 million expansion program.
Senator Helton holds an Associate Degree in Criminal Justice from Western Oklahoma State College and a BS in Business Management and Ethics from Mid-America Christian University. Sam obtained his Oklahoma Real Estate Brokers License and is partnered with Jason Wells and formed Insight Commercial Real Estate Brokerage, LLC in January, 2006.
Sam served as Chairman of the Black Beaver District Boy Scouts of America and served as a Board Member and past President of the Lawton Crime Stoppers Program. He has also served as a Board member of the Lawton Chamber of Commerce, and former board member of the Lawton/Ft. Sill Chamber of Commerce.
